Affection turns to Business

Namita Chhiba, a resident of Panchsheel runs her own garage at Ashrum. Despite being the daughter of RK Dhawan a busnessman of Vintage cars and rich enough to gift her daughter with a Mercedes Benz, the lady is happy to work day and night in the dingy atmosphere of the garage in order to aspire her father’s dream. Dhawan owns two garage set ups - one at Kilokri & the other at Noida under the name Engineer’s Corporation. Namita who has spent 20 years of her life with the garage workers, is a prominent example of Indian women in the busines sector. Even though a mother of two, her affection for the garage which she has been visiting since childhood has not lessened. She has now taken over her father’s business completely and spends most of the day in supervising both the set-ups.

Seasoned photographer Vidura at MCRC

On 4th March, James Beveridge media resource centre of AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia, organised a lecture by Vidura Jang Bahadur.
An independent photographer and alumnus of MCRC, Vidura spoke on his experiences in Chobi Mela V, an international festival of photography held in Bangladesh. He also talked about and showcased works of different photographers like Munew Wasif, Sohrab Hura and Saiful Huq Omi.
Shohini Ghosh, Sabeena Gadhioke and Sohail Akbar, faculty members of MCRC were also present at the lecture. The session was followed by a discussion with the students.

SECURITY EXPO 2009

The 12th India International Security Expo 2009 was organised from 22 to 25 February at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The aim of the event was to sensitize people with the sophisticated security systems.
Manufactures displayed various equipments, which can prove to be handy in disater management. Dogs who play a role in the security system were also a part of the expo.

Yamuna bachao abhiyaan

To give a new breath to the river yamuna campaign, a Yamuna rally was organized on 22nd Feb 2009. The event was held in collaboration with the Delhi Based NGO ‘Accord’ at the Ansari auditorium of Jamia Millia Islamia University. The main aim of this event was to create awareness among people to keep Yamuna clean.
Lt. Governer of Delhi, Tejender Khanna was the chief guest. Other emient personalities who were present on the ocassion were Mayor of Delhi Aarti Mehra, K.S.Mehra, MCD Commisioner and Prof. Mushirul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, JMI. Students, NSS Volunteers, NCC Cadets, Eco Clubs, NGOs and MCD took part in the event.
Cultural programmes, prize distribution, 2-km long march were the additional attractions of the occasion

Fusion of Art and Tradition

“Sarees of India”, a national level special handloom Expo was organised at Pragati Maidan, Delhi from 7th to 23rd February. Sarees from different states of India were showcased at the expo. Bhagalpuri Tusser and Madhubani of Bihar, Varansi silk and Jamdani of Uttar Pradesh, Patola and Ikkat of Gujarat and Bhandhani of Rajasthan were few of the attractions of the expo.
The aim of the event was to promote sarees of different states and also to boost their sales। The event was sponsered by the Ministry of Textiles and organised by Association of Corporations and Apex Socities of Handloom.

सूरजकुंड हस्तशिल्प मेला "2009"

हरियाणा के पर्यटन विभाग द्वारा 1981 में शुरू किया गया, सूरजकुंड हस्तशिल्प मेला , हर साल 1-15 फ़रवरी तक फरीदाबाद के सूरजकुंड में लगता है। इस मेले में विभिन्न राज्यों की हस्तशिल्प वस्तुओं को खरीदने के साथ-साथ वहां के भोजन का भरपूर आनंद लिया जा सकता है। इस मेले में पंजाब का भांगडा, राधा कृष्ण की रास लीला से लेकर मणिपुर का सांस्कृतिक नृत्य भी देखा जा सकता है। हर वर्ष इस मेले को अलग-अलग राज्य आयोजित करते हैं , इस वर्ष मेले का आयोजन मध्यप्रदेश द्वारा किया गया, जिसमे इसका भागीदार मिस्र रहा। इस मेले का मुख्य उद्देश्य विभिन्न राज्यों की हस्तशिल्प कला व संस्कृति को प्रर्दशित करना है।

राज्य स्तरीय उत्तर पूर्व उत्सव , ग्रामोद्योग बाज़ार - २००९ , २७ जनवरी से ८ फरवरी , दिल्ली हाट, नई दिल्ली, में मनाया गया। इस उत्सव को मनाने का उद्देश्य उत्तर पूर्व राज्यों की संस्कृति व कलाओं को प्रर्दशित करना था । इस उत्सव में मनोरंजन के रूप में सिक्किम का सांस्कृतिक नृत्य सिंगिछ्म भी प्रस्तुत किया गया ।
